The ESOL group will:
- Support and influence the delivery of local Skills for Life plans and targets
- Fulfill responsibilities as individual members by adhering to the principles set out in the NSfLP partnership agreement
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the Nottinghamshire Skills for Life action plan
- Complete a six monthly update report and an annual report for the strategic group which sets out progress achieved and proposed priorities for the following year
- Develop a detailed understanding of the complexity of local need
- Members will communicate the NSfLP mission/agenda/progress etc both within their own organisation and across the broader external networks/forums they belong too.
- Ensure that the membership of the group is representative of the city and the county.
- Review and address the marketing and promotion needs of ESOL, waiting lists, current provision, future provision etc.
- Develop working partnerships and collaborative approaches to address NSfLP and LSC objectives/targets for ESOL.
- Develop and identify key links to other initiatives such as Neighbourhood Renewal, Learning Communities
- Develop and pilot innovative approaches to meeting ESOL needs.
- Ensure that there are sufficient resources and tutors to meet ESOL needs.
- Respond to new policies, practices and emphasis, eg tutor qualifications.
- Ensure that the ESOL needs of all the community are addressed alongside recognition of cultural identity.
- Identify sources of funding.
- Raise awareness at strategic level of the importance of ESOL and it’s issues.
The chairperson for the ESOL group will be elected by a simple majority vote. Only members of the ESOL group will be eligible for election as chair. Tenure will be for one year, renewable by agreement of the group or by a new majority vote.
